Netballers Win Grit And Glory

Netball: Waverley International Schools Netball Championships, Asian Youth Netball Championships 20255

19 netballers travelled to Melbourne for the Waverley International Schools Netball Championships held from 8 to 11 July 2025 — a four-day tournament that tested us in every way. The cold, rainy conditions, the packed schedule, and the intensity of each match pushed us to our limits. But for me, it was more than just a competition — it was a real test of who we are as student-athletes and as a team.

Throughout the competition, we had to show discipline and resilience — not just physically, but mentally. Whether it was pushing through four games in a single day or showing up for each other on and off the court, both teams fought with heart. The way we backed each other with encouragement and support is something I’ll always remember.

Beyond the games, this trip brought us closer as a team. I shared a room with two seniors and a junior, and together we found connection in the small things — shared meals, competition preparation, and doing the laundry. The kind of friendship we built reminded me that sometimes the best part of a trip is who you get to share the journey with.

There were challenges — staying mentally switched on through long days, and moments where we were pushed to our edge — but we showed up with courage every single day. We learned that being brave doesn’t always mean making bold moves. Sometimes, it simply means rising to the moment, staying grounded, and giving your all, again and again.

What I’m most proud of is how we carried ourselves. We played with passion, with joy, and with grit. I know this experience has shaped us — we’re coming back with more confidence, stronger bonds, and a belief that we can take on anything.

A huge thank you to our coaches for making this possible — for your guidance, care, and constant support. And to the parents who flew over to cheer us on — your presence made everything even more special. We’re grateful, and we’re ready for whatever comes next. Asian Youth Netball Championships

Two years after a heartbreaking loss to Malaysia at the 2023 Asian Youth Netball Championship, Singapore’s Under-21 netballers returned to the very court where they had fallen – the Jeonju Hwasan Gymnasium – and rewrote their story. Held from 27 June to 4 July 2025, the championship saw intense regional competition. Yet, in a powerful display of determination and growth, Team Singapore defeated their Malaysian rivals 49-29 in the final, clinching the gold medal for the first time since 2017.

The victory was contributed by several past student-athletes – Tham May Xin, B Divya Matilda, Faithmaria Ifeoma McKevin Lawrence, Kimberly Koh, and Zulfa Rashad – all of whom played pivotal roles in the team’s performance. Their composure and teamwork under pressure proved instrumental in turning the tide in Singapore’s favour.
