On 11 July 2025, Singapore Sports School hosted its annual University and Scholarship Fair, an important event designed to support student-athletes in planning their post-secondary journeys. The fair welcomed over 400 student-athletes and parents, all keen to explore academic pathways and scholarships that accommodate both educational goals and sporting commitments. With a focus on athlete-friendly options, the fair aimed to provide realistic and informed perspectives for students managing dual responsibilities.

The University and Scholarship Fair this year featured 25 participating organisations, including 6 local autonomous universities, 11 overseas institutions and advisory offices from countries such as Australia, the UK, France, and Hong Kong, and 8 organisations offering scholarships and national service opportunities. A panel discussion from the local autonomous universities gave insights into how universities support student-athletes with flexible schedules and structured sports development. Meanwhile, booth interactions offered a valuable chance to ask specific questions and explore how different institutions tailor their programmes to support athletes holistically.

As an IBDP student-athlete, this fair arrived at the perfect time. With graduation on the horizon, I’ve been seriously considering my options after the IB. Speaking with current university students who are managing both sport and studies helped me visualise what my life could look like next year. One conversation that stood out was with students from the NTU Asian School of the Environment. They shared how they enjoy their curriculum and still have free time. Their stories made continuing my sporting journey in university feel not just possible, but exciting and achievable.

Another highlight was speaking with representatives from the Ministry of Defence, who opened my eyes to scholarship and career paths I hadn’t previously considered. Their guidance, along with the approachable and encouraging atmosphere across the fair, made me feel more confident to ask questions and explore new directions. All in all, for many of us, the fair was more than just an information session, it was a turning point, one that offered the clarity and confidence to start shaping a future that balances both academic ambition and sporting passion.
