Building Strength From Within And Around Us

Well-Being Week

This year’s Well-Being Week shone a spotlight on something that matters just as much as physical fitness – social and emotional well-being.

So, what exactly do they mean? Social well-being is about building strong and positive relationships that give us connection, trust and a sense of belonging within our school community. For student-athletes, it’s about communicating with openness, being proactive in friendships and creating a culture where no one feels left out.

Emotional well-being, on the other hand, is the ability to recognise and express our feelings in a healthy way, while staying balanced through life’s challenges. It’s about bouncing back from setbacks, handling stress with grace, and remembering that struggles are part of growth. As Maya Angelou once said, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

The Student Council brought these themes to life with an entertaining and relatable skit during the school assembly, showcasing simple but powerful ways to support one another. From spotting signs of distress in friends to offering words of encouragement, student-athletes saw clear examples of how small actions can make a big difference.

A staff member from Touch Community Services also shared practical tips on maintaining good well-being.

To add a personal touch, care packs were also handed out to every student-athlete. Beyond being a cheerful mood-booster, they served as a reminder to keep an eye out for one another.
