Expanding Academic Pathways Through Collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic
Expanding Academic Pathways Through Collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic
Memorandum of Understanding between Singapore Sports School and Temasek Polytechnic
On 11 February 2026, Singapore Sports School signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Temasek Polytechnic (TP) to offer five diploma programmes from its School of Applied Science.
The MOU was formally signed by Mr Ong Kim Soon, Principal of Singapore Sports School and Mr Patrice Choong, Principal of Temasek Polytechnic. The signing was witnessed by Mr David Neo, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Senior Minister of State for Education, as the standing witness, at Sports School’s 22nd Awards Night where he graced the event.
This partnership marks a significant milestone for Sports School. For the first time, the School will offer a suite of off-campus academic programmes, broadening and strengthening dual-career pathways for student-athletes. It also introduces the School’s first STEM-based diploma offerings, expanding opportunities for those with aspirations in science and applied research fields.
From 2027, Sports School student-athletes can enrol in Chemical Engineering, Food, Nutrition & Culinary Science, Medical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Science, and Veterinary Technology under TP’s School of Applied Science.
The joint diploma programmes will be athlete-friendly by design, supporting the holistic development of national athletes in both sport and academics. Classes will be customised and clustered in the afternoons to accommodate national athletes who train twice daily. Across all five diploma programmes, student-athletes will also have the flexibility to plan their academic schedules around their sporting demands and commitments, including the option to extend the duration of their diploma studies where necessary.
These new offerings expand Sports School’s comprehensive post-secondary educational pathways, complementing its existing diploma partnerships with Republic Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Republic Polytechnic offers the joint Diploma in Business programme, while Ngee Ann Polytechnic offers the joint Diploma in Business Studies programme.
Republic Polytechnic offers the joint Diploma in Business programme, while Ngee Ann Polytechnic offers the joint Diploma in Business Studies programme. Both are conducted on-site at Sports School.
Mr Ong Kim Soon, Principal of Singapore Sports School, shared, “The introduction of the new academic programmes with Temasek Polytechnic strengthens our dual career pathways by giving student-athletes more options to pursue their education and career aspirations alongside high-performance sport. By shaping an athlete-friendly learning environment that understands the demands of high-performance student-athletes, we are better meeting the needs of the sports ecosystem to enable more student-athletes to thrive in their sporting careers and beyond. We are grateful to Temasek Polytechnic for coming on board as an academic partner, along with our longstanding partners, Republic Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, to support our national athletes in their academic journey and contribute towards making sport a viable career. These partnerships will also ready Sports School for the move to Kallang to support even more student- athletes in time to come.”
Mr Patrice Choong, Principal and CEO of Temasek Polytechnic, said, “Temasek Polytechnic is pleased to partner Singapore Sports School to expand flexible and meaningful pathways for student-athletes to excel in both academics and sport. This collaboration broadens access to our Applied Science diploma programmes while recognising the demands of high-performance training and equipping students with strong, industry-relevant foundations for future careers. It reflects Temasek Polytechnic’s commitment to working closely with partners to develop inclusive pathways that enable student-athletes to contribute to both Singapore’s science-related talent pipeline and the sporting arena. We look forward to deepening this collaboration and supporting more student-athletes throughout and beyond their sporting journeys.”
