Results Day Glory for IBDP and N-Level Student-Athletes
IBDP Results Release and GCE ‘N’ Levels Results Release
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
During their time at Sports School, 19 graduates represented Singapore as part of the National Youth Squads or National Teams. The school’s extended IBDP pathway, offered since 2014, allows high-performing student-athletes to complete the programme over three years, providing the flexibility to balance training, competitions, and studies.
Four student-athletes — sailor Elkan Reshawn Oh, fencer Esther Tan, bowler Nur Irdina Hazly, and aquathlete Reyes Loh—took their IBDP examinations in November and represented Singapore at the SEA Games in December.
Elkan, who clinched a SEA Games silver medal in 2023, repeated the feat this year. A participant in the Asian Games as well, he shared, “When the time came for studies, I put 100% into studying, and when it came to training, I put 100% into training.”
Fencer Esther Tan was part of the gold-medal-winning Women’s Épée team. She reflected on a year of growth, balancing intensive training, injuries, and academic demands. “Juggling IB and training, especially during competition periods, was definitely not easy. After a whole day of lessons, I would go straight to training and often stay late to do extra sessions on my own—running, lifting weights, and fencing exercises. I was often the last to leave the fencing hall. I had to sacrifice a lot of personal time and time with friends, but remembering my goals and the support from school, friends, and family kept me going.”
Both Elkan and Esther were on the extended IBDP programme, which allowed them to complete their studies in three years. They excelled academically, each earning more than 40 points out of a possible 45.
On their results, Mr Ong Kim Soon, Principal of Singapore Sports School shared, “The Class of 2025 began their secondary school journey just before the COVID-19 pandemic, and had to navigate limited opportunities and an uncertain future. Despite disruptions to learning, training, and competitions, they remained focused, adaptable and resilient. We are immensely proud of them for rising above these challenges and balancing the demands of their IBDP studies and sport while maintaining a holistic school life. Their achievements reflect strength of character, determination, and perseverance, and they are well-positioned for continued success in their chosen paths.”
GCE N-Level
Among them are pencak silat exponents Maisarah Sahrin and Ilhan Dani Muhammad Zaki, both members of the national youth team. Maisarah, who earned a gold medal at the 2025 Pesta Sukan and silver at the 2025 National Pencak Silat Championship, shared, “With the support of the people around me, I managed to balance both sports and studies. I get help from my teachers to catch up on my schoolwork and gain a better understanding of the lessons. They were always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter how busy they were. I also balanced sports and studies by managing my time well and setting clear priorities. I planned my schedule in advance to ensure I could complete my schoolwork while still attending training. This journey taught me discipline and effective time management.” Maisarah will be pursuing Event Management in ITE in 2026.
