A Piste of the Action

Fencing: SEA Fencing Federation Minime, Junior and Cadet Championships, Asian Cadet Cup, Singapore Junior Trials II and Singapore Senior Trials I

It has been a busy few months for our fencers, with competitions coming thick and fast both at home and abroad. Their recent outings have given them plenty to celebrate, with medals across epee, foil and sabre and a string of champions emerging across different age groups.

South East Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Minime, Junior & Cadet Championships

At the South East Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Minime, Junior & Cadet Championships in Kuala Lumpur held from 6 to 8 August 2026, our fencers collected 8 gold medals, alongside a host of silver and bronze medals.

Among the standout performers were five individual champions. Hannah Isabella captured the U14 Women’s Sabre title, while Kitson Kok emerged victorious in the U14 Men’s Epee.

At the Junior level, Isabelle Lee took gold in the Women’s Epee, with teammate Mariem Maya Lounis joining her on the podium with bronze. Benjamin Lee was crowned Junior Men’s Epee champion, while Marcus Maximilian Tan completed the individual gold haul with victory in the Junior Men’s Sabre.

There was plenty more to celebrate in the individual events. Claire Yang earned silver in the U14 Women’s Epee, while Kai Seah Rajentheran took bronze in the U14 Men’s Sabre.

In the Junior Women’s Sabre, Natallie Chan secured silver, with Jaida Quah and Sarah Koh sharing the bronze-medal positions. Cevin Sun added a bronze in the Junior Men’s Epee, while Ashton Auw made it a one-two finish for Sports School in the Junior Men’s Sabre with silver behind Marcus.

The individual performances were followed by an equally impressive showing in the team events, where our fencers demonstrated the depth of the contingent. Lee En Qi, Annabelle Ong, Mariem Maya Lounis and Isabelle Lee combined to capture gold in the Junior Women’s Epee Team event.

Our Junior Women’s Sabre medallists then joined forces, with Natallie Chan, Jaida Quah and Sarah Koh turning their individual podium performances into a team gold.

There was another title in the Junior Men’s Epee Team event as Benjamin Lee, Cevin Sun, Kayden Kok and Ethan Tham fought their way to the top of the podium.

The Junior Women’s Foil team of Gianna Koh, Alyssa Tan and Maaravis Sita Naidu also contributed to the medal tally with a bronze.

With medals coming from different age groups, weapons and events, the championships reflected not only the individual abilities of our fencers, but also the collective strength of the fencing programme. Several who reached the podium individually returned to compete alongside their teammates in the team events, turning personal achievements into shared victories.

There was little time to put the swords away.

Singapore Junior Trials II and Singapore Senior Trials I

Two back-to-back weekends of competition followed at the Singapore Junior Trials II from 15 to 16 August and the Singapore Senior Trials I from 22 to 23 August, where our fencers continued their run of podium finishes across all three weapons.

Marcus Maximilian Tan carried his winning form from the SEAFF Championships into the Senior Trials, taking gold in the Men’s Sabre. His victory added another title to an impressive period that had already seen him crowned Junior Men’s Sabre champion in Kuala Lumpur.

At the Junior Trials, Ashton Auw went one better after his SEAFF silver by capturing gold in the Men’s Sabre, while Jae Lim took top honours in the Women’s Sabre.

There were medals throughout the squad as well. At the Senior Trials, Ashton added a Men’s Sabre silver, while Benjamin Lee and Lee En Qi claimed bronze in the Men’s and Women’s Epee respectively. Sarah Koh also secured silver in the Women’s Sabre.

The Junior Trials saw Benjamin Lee take silver in the Men’s Epee and Lee En Qi do likewise in the Women’s Epee. Tan Le Kai earned bronze in the Men’s Foil, while Cameron Alexander Tan Soliano, Isabelle Lee, Annabelle Ong and Sarah Koh also finished on the podium in their respective events.
