20th Asian Games Send-Off Ceremony 2026
Singapore Sports School marked a historic milestone at its 20th Asian Games Send-Off Ceremony on 31 August 2026, celebrating the largest-ever group of past and present student-athletes selected to represent Singapore at the Asian Games.
Held on campus during school assembly, the ceremony honoured those who will compete on one of Asia’s biggest sporting stages. A record 74 past and present student-athletes from Sports School will be part of Team Singapore at the Games, accounting for about one in four athletes in the national contingent. Significantly, 35 of them are current student-athletes, the highest number ever for a single edition of the Asian Games. The contingent features 10 student-athletes from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, while another 21 student-athletes are currently pursuing polytechnic programmes in partnership with Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic. This milestone reflects the success of Sports School's through-train pathways and its continued commitment to supporting student-athletes in fulfilling their sporting potential while pursuing their education.
During his address, Principal Mr Ong Kim Soon reflected on the journeys of student-athletes. He said, “Our student-athletes embody what resilience and determination truly mean. Success in sport rarely proceed in a straight line. It is built through setbacks, sacrifices, and the relentless pursuit of simply being better than yesterday. Encouraging the Asian Games athletes as they prepare to compete on Asia’s biggest stage, he added, “Inspire the nation and the younger student-athletes seated among us today. Treasure the experience, compete with confidence, and give your very best.”
He also recognised eight past and present student-athletes who recently represented Singapore at the Commonwealth Games, as well as student-athletes selected for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games. Following his address, the Asian Games athletes received commemorative mementoes from Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Guest-of-Honour and Chef de Mission for Team Singapore at the 20th Asian Games. The ceremony concluded with the Athlete's Pledge, led by water polo player Matthias Goh Zoltin and swimmer Julia Yeo. As Team Singapore heads to the Asian Games, the Sports School community will be rallying behind the contingent. Sports School wishes Team Singapore every success as they take on Asia's best and fly the national flag high.
