Criteria For P6 Admission Into Secondary Programme

Sports Sports Criteria
Badminton
  • P6s with strong passion in Badminton; and
  • from SBA Regional Training Centre, coaches’ recommendations; and/or
  • Participants who have attained outstanding achievements in National School Games and/or National Age Group competitions and/or International competitions
Bowling
  • Preferably Centre of Excellence (COE) Elementary Status
  • Those without COE status yet will be assessed by our coaches to ascertain ability level
  • Selection will be based on individual assessment of skills and potential
Fencing
  • No prior fencing background required. All applicants will be put through fencing clinics (even those from Learn-to-Fence, Junior Sports Academy (JSA) or have other prior experience)
  • Selection Criteria
    • Physical ability, psychological aspects and attitude
    • Ability to pick up fencing skills & tactics
    • Coachability/ Situational behavioural tests
Football (Boys) SSP-NDC Programme
  • All players selected for this programme must be recommended by FAS and UTR coaches and be part of FAS’s NDC programme starting at the U13 age group.
SSP/non-NDC Programme
  • Selection will be done jointly by SSP coaches. All players selected for this programme must demonstrate potential to qualify for the NDC programme in the future.
Multi-Sport
  • Physically active P6 students who have been exposed to multiple sports since young. Applicants should aspire to represent Singapore in future and be open-minded in trying various sports, and be able to cope with and adapt to different training environments.
  • All students will be assessed through 2-3 rounds of selection trials which include:
    • Physical Ability Assessment
    • Coachability and Teamwork Assessment
Netball (Girls)
  • P6s with strong passion in Netball and who aspires to represent Singapore in the future.
  • Applicants who exhibit good physical ability and technical skills are welcome to take part in the selection trials. Selection Criteria:
    • Physical ability, psychological aspects and attitude
    • Coachability/ Situational behavioural tests
  • While prior experience in a school team is an advantage, we welcome all athletic individuals who are eager to showcase their abilities and skills.
  • All students will be assessed through 3 phases of selection trials.
Shooting
  • P6 students with prior shooting experience through:
    • SSP Learn-to-Shoot (LTS) Programme
    • Junior Shooting Programmes (for airgun) by private vendors
  • Applicants who have participated in the SSP LTS Programme will be assessed during the course and recommended for further evaluation at supplementary classes.
  • Applicants who have not participated in the SSP LTS Programme but have received training under private vendors will be invited for a selection trial.
Swimming
  • P6 swimmers with competitive swimming experience and results from Singapore Aquatics (SAQ) sanctioned meets.
Table Tennis
  • P6s with strong passion in Table Tennis
  • Candidates from Singapore Table Tennis Association’s Junior Development Squad (JDS), club coaches’ recommendations, and participants with outstanding achievements in national school games, national age-group competitions and international competitions.
Track and Field
  • Gritty, driven and resolute P6 students who actively participate in various sports (not limited to Track and Field events)
  • Possesses a Growth-Mindset and believes in Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD)
  • Selection Trials (3 phases)
    • Physical ability tests
    • Athletic skills assessment
    • Training stint with Coaches
Individual Programme

Criteria for Mid-stream Admission Into Secondary Programme

Sports Sports Criteria
Badminton
  • Qualified for or a member of Junior Performance Programme (JPP) and endorsed by Singapore Badminton Association (SBA)
Bowling For entry to lower secondary levels
  • Minimally Centre of Excellence (COE) Intermediate Status 
  • Selection will be based on Individual assessment of skills and potential, done in conjunction with SBF’s Coaching Team
For entry to upper secondary levels
  • Minimally Centre of Excellence (COE) Advance Status
  • Selection will be based on Individual assessment of skills and potential, done in conjunction with Singapore Bowling Federation’s (SBF’s) Coaching Team
Fencing
For entry to lower secondary levels
  • Minimally top 16 in National U17 ranking
For entry to upper secondary levels
  • Minimally top 6 in National U17 ranking for candidates who enrol to study and train in SSP, or
  • Minimally top 6 in National U20 ranking for candidates who enrol to study in SSP but train with external coaches
Football (Boys) SSP/National Development Centre (NDC) Programme
  • Players must be part of Football Association of Singapore (FAS)’s NDC U13/U14/U15 age-group team
SSP/non-NDC Programme
  • Players with potential to qualify for the NDC programme or Singapore Premier League (SPL) clubs subsequently
Multi-Sport
Not applicable
Netball (Girls)
For entry to lower secondary levels
  • Players with potential to qualify for age group team
For entry to upper secondary levels
  • Representation in 14 & Under or 17 & Under (Zone/National) age group teams. 
Shooting
  • Shooters with good, consistent performance with potential to qualify for National Youth Team in the next 1-3 years. Must have prior competition exposure at local competitions such as:
    • National School Games
    • Singapore Cups
    • NUS Invitational Shoot
    • NTU Invitational Shoot
Swimming For entry to lower secondary levels
  • Minimally top 8 in Age Group in at least two Olympic events
For entry to upper secondary levels
  • Minimally top 4 in Age Group in at least two Olympic events
Table Tennis For entry to lower secondary levels
  • Participants with outstanding achievements in national age-group competitions and international competitions, and/or member of Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) Youth Training Squad (YTS) and endorsed by Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA)
For entry to upper secondary levels
  • Member of STTA Youth Training Squad (YTS) and endorsed by Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA)
Track and Field
  • Top ranked (Age-Group) in their Track and Field events
  • Represented Singapore at Youth Athletics Championships
National Basketball Programme

  • Application to Singapore Sports School is endorsed by Basketball Association of Singapore

Criteria for Mid-stream Admission Into Post-Secondary Programmes

Sports Sports Criteria
Badminton
  • Qualified for /or a member of National Team and endorsed by Singapore Badminton Association (SBA)
Bowling Polytechnic
  • Minimally National Development Squad (NDS) 1 Status
  • Selection will be done in conjunction with SBF’s Coaching team
IBDP
  • National Training Squad (NTS)/ National Squad (NS) and are being targeted for Major Competitions
  • Selection will be done in conjunction with Singapore Bowling Federation’s (SBF’s) Coaching team
Fencing
  • Minimally top 6 in National U17 ranking for candidates who enrol to study and train in SSP, or Minimally top 6 in National U20 ranking for candidates who enrol to study in SSP but train with external coaches

Football (Boys)
  • Minimally in Singapore Premier League (SPL) club or part of National Development Centre (NDC) Programme U15, NDC U16 or AFC/AFF squad

Multi-Sport
Not applicable
Netball (Girls)
  • Minimum Representation of 17 & Under (National)
Shooting
  • Current member of the National Youth Team or National Training Team
Swimming  Swimmers are required to meet both criteria for admission consideration:
  • At least 650 AQUA Points (average 3 Olympic events)
  • Representation at Junior Meet (World Juniors / Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships / Youth Olympics / Commonwealth Youth Games / Asian Youth Games) 
OR 
  • Represent at Major Games (SEA Games / Asian Games / Commonwealth Games / Olympics / World Championships)
Table Tennis
  • Under Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA)’s Youth Training Squad (YTS) or Intermediate Squad (IS); and endorsed by Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA)
Track and Field
  • Gritty, driven and focused students who are top-ranked in their age-group for Track and Field events
  • Shortlisted under Singapore Athletics’ Youth/Junior development pathway
National Basketball Programme
  • Application to Singapore Sports School is endorsed by Basketball Association of Singapore
