A First Look at New Pathways with Temasek Polytechnic
Visit to Temasek Polytechnic
From laboratories and food innovation to healthcare and veterinary science, our student-athletes got a first-hand look at the new academic possibilities opening up through Sports School’s partnership with Temasek Polytechnic.
What could life after secondary school look like while continuing to chase sporting ambitions at the highest level? For a group of Secondary 3 and 4 student-athletes, that question took them beyond the Sports School campus and into the laboratories and learning spaces of Temasek Polytechnic (TP) on 14 August 2026.
The visit gave them an opportunity to explore five diploma programmes that Sports School and TP will jointly offer from 2027 under TP’s School of Applied Science. More than simply hearing about the courses, the student-athletes experienced elements of applied science learning for themselves through hands-on activities in TP’s laboratories.
The visit comes as Sports School prepares to broaden its post-secondary pathways for student-athletes through its partnership with TP. The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2026, introduces Sports School’s first suite of STEM-based diploma offerings. Importantly, the programmes are designed with the realities of high performance sport in mind. Student-athletes may enjoy greater flexibility to allow their academic schedules to be planned around training camps, competitions and other sporting commitments. Where required, student-athletes may also extend the duration of their diploma studies.

Five Pathways, Many Possibilities
The five diplomas open up a range of opportunities for student-athletes interested in science, healthcare, engineering, food and animal care.
Diploma in Chemical Engineering
Students learn how science and engineering are used to develop and manufacture products ranging from medicines and food to sustainable energy solutions. The course also offers opportunities to specialise in areas such as pharmaceuticals, applied chemistry and semiconductor technology.
Diploma in Food, Nutrition & Culinary Science
This programme combines food science, nutrition and culinary skills. Students explore how food is developed, prepared and evaluated, while learning about nutrition, food safety and emerging food technologies.
Diploma in Medical Biotechnology
Students gain knowledge and laboratory skills in areas such as microbiology, molecular biology and human health. The course prepares them for pathways in biomedical research, diagnostics, healthcare and biotechnology.
Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science
The course introduces students to how medicines are developed, manufactured and used safely. Students learn about pharmacy practice, pharmacology and pharmaceutical production, with opportunities to gain industry experience.
Diploma in Veterinary Technology
Designed for those interested in animal health and welfare, the programme covers veterinary nursing, animal care, diagnostics and basic clinical procedures. Students also gain practical experience relevant to veterinary and animal-related industries.

The visit allowed them to see how concepts learnt in the classroom are translated into practical applications, while giving them a clearer picture of the different academic and career possibilities available through applied science. It also reflects a larger purpose behind Sports School’s growing network of post-secondary partnerships: to give student-athletes more choices without requiring them to choose between their education and their sporting ambitions.
From 2027, the five TP programmes will complement Sports School’s existing athlete-friendly diploma partnerships with Republic Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, further expanding the pathways available to student-athletes as they progress beyond secondary school. For our Secondary 3 and 4 student-athletes, the visit was an early glimpse into what their next chapter could hold.
