Star-Studded Paddlers Shine Bright

Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) Annual Awards 2026

Described by her coach as “a little girl with maturity beyond her age,” Loy Ming Ying has built her journey on quiet resilience – qualities that earned her the STTA Youth Player of the Year award at the STTA Annual Awards ceremony on 11 May 2026. Calm under pressure and unafraid of adversity, she has consistently shown her ability to rise when it matters most.

In 2026, Ming Ying demonstrated that resolve with a comeback victory in the U19 Girls’ Singles final at the SEA Youth Table Tennis Championships. She also made history at the Singapore Smash alongside Chloe Lai, becoming the first Singaporeans to reach the women’s doubles quarter-finals.

At the World Team Championships, then world No. 188, Ming Ying delivered a breakthrough performance by upsetting world No. 68 Yang Ha-eun, securing Singapore’s only point in their match against South Korea. The result reflected both her preparation and quiet belief in her game.

To pursue her sporting ambitions, Ming Ying has chosen to take a gap year from her studies and focus on preparing for this year’s Youth Olympic Games.

Alongside her, Izaac Quek was named STTA Star Player of the Year. Reflecting on his progress, the Diploma in Business Studies Year 3 student-athlete shared in an interview with The Straits Times: “I’m very happy because this is validation of my hard work and results for the past year and this award also motivates me to work harder towards my goals.”

“I hope to break into the men’s singles top 50 and win a major event… and try to secure a medal,” he added.

Meanwhile, Secondary 1 paddler Gu Xintian was named Hopes Player of the Year, while alumnus Koen Pang received a special award recognising his consistency, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
