Fencing: 2026 FIE Senior World Fencing Championships
In a test against the world’s best fencers, our fencers shone on the piste at the 2026 FIE Senior World Fencing Championships. Held from 22 to 30 July at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, China, the championships featured individual and team competitions across foil, epee and sabre.
Leading Singapore’s campaign at the tip of the sword was Juliet Heng Jie Min in the Women’s Individual Sabre. Entering the championships ranked 48th in the world, Juliet delivered an impressive performance to finish 30th overall in a field of 134 fencers from 47 nations.
She won 5 of her 6 pool bouts before defeating Puerto Rico’s Gabriela Hwang 15-13 in the preliminary round of 64. Her run ended in the main tableau, but her 30th-place finish represented one of Singapore’s strongest individual results at the championships.
Juliet later teamed up with post-secondary student-athlete Jae Lim Jia En, and other Team Singapore fencers Christine Tan Kai Li and Thhivya Ashti Siva Kumar in the Women’s Sabre Team event. The quartet demonstrated strong chemistry and composure against world-class opposition, completing their campaign in 24th place.
Singapore also secured a 19th -place finish in the Men’s Foil Team competition. Zephaniah Ian Kiew, who teamed up with Samuel Elijah Robson, Keyon Loo and Raphael Tan Juan Kang pushed Belgium all the way before narrowly falling 45-42 in a closely contested encounter.
In the Women’s Epee Team event, alumnae Esther Tan and Filzah Hidayah Nor Anuar teamed up with Olympian Kiria Tikanah Abdul Rahman and Elle Koh Meihui. Their combined experience and defensive discipline placed them in 21st place overall. The competition featured many of the world’s leading epee nations, with Italy eventually claiming the title.
Beyond Juliet’s standout campaign, several Singapore women fencers finished the competition with encouraging individual finishes. Alumnae Cheung Kemei and Amita Berthier finished in 68th and 77th place in Women’s Foil respectively. Jae Lim placed 99th in Women’s Sabre, while Esther and Filzah placed 119th and 140th respectively in Women’s Épée.
Among the men, post-secondary student-athlete Rohan Aan Leo finished 77th in Sabre, followed by alumnus Chan Phu Xien in 107th and Marcus Maximillian Tan from the Diploma in Business Studies programme in 129th. Zephaniah completed the Men’s Foil competition in 161st place, while Si To Jian Tong and post-secondary student-athlete Azfar Luqman Ong finished 179th and 190th respectively in Men’s Épée.
Competing on the sport’s biggest annual stage gave the Singapore contingent valuable exposure against fencing’s elite. With encouraging individual progress, closely fought team contests and Juliet’s top-30 finish, the championships provided another important step forward for Singapore fencing.
On home grounds, Cameron Alexander Tan Soliano lunged to a gold medal in Men's Sabre at the Singapore Cadet Trials 2 from 25 to 26 July 2026.
