Shooters Firing Up Friendships and Podium Finishes
Shooting: Exchange with New Taipei Municipal Lin-Kou Senior High School, East Asian Youth Airgun Competition
The Shooting Academy enjoyed an action-packed National Day week filled with international collaboration and medal-winning performances.
From 3 to 5 August 2026, the Academy hosted shooters and staff from New Taipei Municipal Lin-Kou Senior High School for a three-day training exchange at Sports School. The programme brought together young student-athletes from both schools for intensive training sessions, fostering camaraderie, cultural exchange, and valuable learning opportunities.
“During the exchange, we got to spend time with the Taiwanese shooters, learning about their culture and training structure. I really enjoyed making new friends and learning about their daily lives, while exchanging thoughts on our different training and school routines. My biggest takeaway was learning to step out of my comfort zone, as interacting with the Taiwanese shooters gradually became easier after starting the first conversation,” shared Diploma in Business, Year 1 student-athlete Ayden Seah.
Coaches also engaged in professional discussions, sharing best practices and insights to enhance athlete development. The exchange concluded with a friendly shoot that showcased the strong bonds forged over the three days.
Meanwhile, in Nagoya, Japan, a select group of our shooters represented Singapore at the East Asian Youth Airgun Competition. Competing at the newly renovated Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, a venue set to host future Asian Games shooting events, our student-athletes rose to the challenge despite a demanding competition schedule.
Their efforts paid off spectacularly, with the team returning home with four podium finishes. Leading the charge were Lee Zhe Kai, who secured silver in the 10m Air Rifle Men Youth Team event, and Joey Oh and Wichelle Tan, who clinched silver in the 10m Air Rifle Women Youth Team event. The 10m Air Pistol Women Team comprising Quek Gek Ling, Samantha Cheng, and Chloe Tan, as well as the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team Youth team comprising of Gek Ling and Daanish Teo Yasin Teo, each added a bronze medal to Singapore's tally.
