Together, We Rise as One
Sports School Orientation Programme 2026
The first day of school is always a cocktail of emotions. Excitement, nerves, pride and a few teary goodbyes were felt by both parents and students alike. At Singapore Sports School, these emotions came alive the moment our incoming Secondary 1 student-athletes arrived for the Sports School Orientation Camp 2026, held from 4 to 9 January.
After checking into boarding, heartfelt hugs and well-wishes were exchanged as parents sent their children off with bags packed not just with essentials, but with dreams waiting to be realised over the next few years. From that point on, our new student-athletes were in the capable hands of their seniors from the Student Council, who would guide them through the next 5 days of camp.
The ice was quickly broken through a series of fun ice breaker activities, helping the students get to know one another. Laughter filled the spaces as conversations flowed easily, and before long, friendships began to take shape.
Day 1 also marked their first official assembly as student-athletes of the school. Following a warm welcome by Principal Mr Ong Kim Soon and Student Council President Carri-Anne, it was time to loosen up. Led by student councillor Reeyern Ng and the rest of the Student Council, the Secondary 1s picked up the school dance steps and confidently grooved together, marking their first shared school tradition.
On Days 2 and 3, the energy levels went up a notch as the students headed to a trampoline park in the mornings. Through bouncing, laughing, and working together, teamwork naturally developed through play. The afternoons saw them meeting their coaches and seniors from their respective academies, where introductions turned into bonding sessions filled with games and shared experiences.
Day 4 began with the Buddy Programme, where each Secondary 1 was paired with a senior buddy. Through candid conversations, seniors shared practical tips on managing challenges, balancing commitments and maintaining a positive mindset as a student-athlete. The day ended on a high note with wet games by the pool, where teamwork, trust and camaraderie took centre stage.

Day 5 brought the cohort on a learning journey to the Singapore Sports Hub. Beyond navigating the iconic sporting venue, the students were immersed in Singapore’s rich sporting history, offering them a glimpse of the pathways and possibilities that lie ahead.
SSOC 2026 concluded with a meaningful finale. The student-athletes took part in a symbolic 5km initiation run before taking their oath as Sports School student-athletes. With proud parents looking on, the moment marked the official start of their journey, one fuelled by discipline, purpose and the shared belief that they are now part of something bigger.
As SSOC 2026 came to a close, one thing was clear. Our newest student-athletes were no longer strangers finding their way, but a community ready to Rise as One.
