SEAing Paddlers On The Rise
Table Tennis: SEA Youth Table Tennis Championships 2025
It was a golden campaign for Team Singapore at the SEA Youth Table Tennis Championships 2025, with Sports School paddlers playing a significant role in delivering a stellar medal haul. Held in Jakarta from 17 to 22 April 2025, the regional showdown saw 12 paddlers from Sports School contributing to all 12 medals clinched by Team Singapore – 3 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze.
Among the standout moments was a thrilling triumph in the Under-15 Girls’ Singles by Loy Ming Ying. The Secondary 3 student-athlete displayed nerves of steel as she edged out Thailand’s Kulapassr in a tense 4-3 final, sealing her second Under-15 title at the SEA Youth Championships, having first won it in 2023. “I’m very proud of this win,” said Ming Ying after the final. “Kulapassr is a very tough opponent, and every set was a real battle. I just stayed focused, trusted my training, and kept believing in myself.”
The gold rush continued in the Under-19 Mixed Doubles, where Ellsworth Le and Chloe Lai delivered a composed performance to defend the title. The pair overcame a spirited Malaysian duo in a gripping 3-2 final, ensuring Singapore retained the title won last year by siblings Loy Xing Yao and Ming Ying.
Rounding off Singapore’s trio of golds was a commanding performance by the U19 Boys’ Team, comprising Izaac Quek, Nicholas Tan, Loy Xing Yao, and Ellsworth Le. The team showcased depth and determination as they defeated Malaysia 3-1 in the final.
