Hard Work, Heart and Hustle On The NSG Track
Track and Field: National School Games and 85th Singapore Open Track and Field Championships
The Track and Field Academy had an adrenaline-pumping three weeks from 7 to 25 April 2025 at the National School Games (NSG) at Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Home of Athletics and the National Stadium. They bagged 22 medals (4 gold, 6 silver, 12 bronze) after weeks of preparations and competitive action.
The big winners of the NSG season are the ‘C’ Division Girls, who earned 3 golds, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals. Elia Owen stole the spotlight with a stunning gold-medal finish in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 01:02.88 seconds. She also clinched a bronze medal in the 200m sprint. Aura Ramadhania Muhammad Nizar is the other double medal recipient among the ‘C’ Division Girls. She came in 2nd in the 100m event and 4th in the 200m, just behind Elia. Both Elia and Aura played a crucial role in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams, helping them sprint to victory and claim gold in both events. The other standout performer was Chantel Tan Bao Hui. Chantel won a silver medal in pole vault, making her the first female medallist in pole vault since Cherlin Sia, who graduated in 2022. The ‘C’ Girls captured the 4th place in overall ranking.
The ‘B’ Division Boys also made their mark, earning a total of 7 medals (2 silver, 5 bronze). Veroy Chua captured silver in the 400m hurdles, while Ethan Roman, Jase Low, and Muhammad Aaryan secured bronze in their respective events. The 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams added to the tally with a 2nd and 4th place finish respectively.
In the ‘B’ Division Girls, Megan Chng Shu Ting emerged as the top performer, delivering a powerful race in the 100m hurdles with a personal best timing of 16.10 seconds.
On the same afternoon of the finals of the NSG, spectators had the opportunity to witness spectacular races from local and international track and field athletes as they competed in the finals of the Singapore Open Track and Field Championships. Alumni Shanti Pereira and Kerstin Ong, and current student-athlete Laavinia Jaiganth were in disbelief as they equalled the national 4x100m record and qualified for the Asian Athletics Championships. Laavinia, who is in the Diploma in Business Studies programme, also won 3rd in the 200m dash, which was won by sprint queen Shanti Pereira. Other competitors at the championships are current student-athlete Sheik Fayz Sheik Alau’ddin, Emir Muhammad Rashid, Abdul Raqib Abdul Razak, Niq Rifdi Rafiqi Yuran, Emre Rizq Mika Harris Mulyadi, Elijah Tan, Zara Almirah Abdul Aziz and Neo En Yu. Alumni Andrew Medina and Reuben Rainer Lee also competed in the Singapore Open.
