Exploring Career Pathways Beyond The Arena
Exploring Career Pathways Beyond The Arena
Public Service Career Talk
At the Public Service Career Talk on 17 April 2026, our post-secondary student-athletes were inspired to see sport beyond the arena, beyond personal achievement, and the pursuit of medals. Through the sharing by Mr Low Jiaren, Deputy Chief of the High Performance Sport Institute, and Ms Pearline Chan, Director of High Performance Athlete Life, they gained valuable insights into how a career in sport can become a meaningful way to serve others and contribute to Singapore’s sporting future.
Drawing from their own career journeys, our speakers shared how the sporting ecosystem continues to evolve, creating diverse opportunities for individuals who are passionate about sport. From athlete support and sports science to coaching, marketing, leadership and policy work, the session opened our student-athletes’ eyes to the many ways they can make a difference in the sport ecosystem.
For our student-athletes, the talk was a powerful reminder that the qualities they build through sport — resilience, discipline, teamwork, adaptability and commitment — are valuable far beyond competition. Together with their tertiary qualifications and lived experiences as athletes, these skills can equip them to contribute meaningfully across the sports industry and public service.
The session encouraged them to think boldly about their future: not only as athletes, but as future leaders, mentors, professionals and changemakers who can help shape the next chapter of Singapore sport.
