Shuttlers Build on Smashing Experience Overseas
Badminton: Austrian Open 2026, Pathumthani U13, U15 and U17 Junior International, and YONEX 3 Borders 2026
Our shuttlers took their game beyond local courts in May, competing in the MITH YONEX Pathumthanee U13 U15 U17 International Junior 2026 in Thailand and the Austrian Open 2026.
At the MITH YONEX Pathumthanee International Junior, held from 19 to 24 May, Rithika Somasundaram delivered a strong performance in the Women’s Singles U17 category to finish 3rd, earning a well-deserved bronze medal. Her podium finish was a commendable achievement against a competitive international field and reflected her growing maturity on court.
Several other Sports School shuttlers also put up spirited performances to reach the quarter-final stage. Andres Lim Yong Li advanced to the quarter-finals in the Men’s Singles U15, while Julia Teo Zhe Lin and Tan Xi En reached the same stage in the Mixed Doubles U15. In the Men’s Doubles U15, Yeoh Kai Jie and Ong Jun Yang also secured a quarter-final finish, while Liang Zi Xuan and Tan Wan Qi reached the quarter-finals in the Women’s Doubles U17.
Over in Europe, Sports School student-athletes and alumni were also in action at the Austrian Open 2026, held from 21 to 24 May. Heng Xiao En, partnering Kriston Choo, reached the quarter-finals in the Mixed Doubles event. Ng Ming Zhe, with Tan Qian Hang, also made the quarter-finals in Men’s Doubles. Alumna Megan Lee flew the flag in Women’s Singles, finishing as a quarter-finalist as well.
Zack Ng also played with heart in Saint Louis France from 29 to 31 May at the Yonex 3 Borders competition. Zack's stellar display was commendable but he fell short of taking the Men's Singles U19 title and finished in 2nd place.
These results reflect the effort, focus and competitive spirit of our shuttlers as they continue to sharpen their game through international exposure. Each match offered a chance to learn, adapt and grow against different playing styles, adding valuable experience to their sporting journey.
