Alumna Janelle Yeo Run En has been awarded the Harvard Prize Book, a recognition presented to students who have shown sustained care, kindness and service to others.

The Harvard Prize Book is presented to recipients who goes beyond the call of duty to make a meaningful difference. More than one-off acts of kindness, the award recognises individuals who show an authentic and lasting desire to help others, and who may inspire their peers, family members or community to do the same.

Janelle has demonstrated this spirit through her compassion and initiative when she was in Singapore Sports School. With plenty of heart and a strong sense of purpose, she founded Project Cura, a student-led initiative that encourages the school community to give back in simple but meaningful ways.

One of Project Cura’s initiatives involved collecting used clothes and giving them a second life. Through this effort, Janelle helped promote both sustainability and care for others, showing how everyday items can be repurposed to benefit those in need. The project also encouraged others to think more deeply about waste, generosity and the impact they can make through small actions.

Beyond the initiative itself, Janelle’s efforts reflect the qualities of a caring leader. She saw a need, took action, and rallied others to contribute. Her work is a reminder that kindness does not always have to be grand to be powerful. Sometimes, it begins with a thoughtful idea, a willing heart, and the courage to turn compassion into action.
