Fine Touches, Finer Finishes

Fencing: Novices Championship 2026, Junior and Cadet Trials 1, Asian Fencing Championships,

Novices Championship 2026

For many fencers, novice competitions are where early lessons are tested, nerves are managed, and confidence is built one bout at a time.

At the Novices Championship 2026 held on 30 and 31 May 2026, our fencers made the most of that platform, turning their preparation into podium finishes across the foil, sabre and epee events.

Nathan Yip led the results with a gold medal in Men’s Foil, while Natalie Tay matched that achievement with gold in Women’s Sabre. Hannah Isabella also made it a strong showing in the same weapon category, finishing with silver.

In the epee events, Aiden Sng and Valerie Kok Jing Xuan added two bronze medals in Men’s Épée and Women’s Épée respectively, completing a well-rounded outing for the team.

Beyond the medals, the championship offered valuable competition experience for the fencers as they continue to grow in timing, tactical awareness and composure on the piste. Their performances reflect encouraging progress and a promising step forward in their development.

Junior and Cadet Trials 1

The winning streak continues as our student-athletes carried their fine form into the competitive arena this June! At the Singapore Junior Trials I held from 6 to 7 June 2026, our fencers brought home a fantastic haul of 2 silver and 6 bronze medals, before keeping the momentum alive to capture another brilliant 1 silver and 3 bronzes at the Singapore Cadet Trials I from 27 to 28 June 2026.

Asian Fencing Championships

In addition, Team Singapore fencer and alumna Esther Tan was part of the Singapore Women’s Épée team that made history by winning the nation’s first-ever Épée team medal at the Asian Fencing Championships.

Esther, together with teammates Kiria Tikanah Abdul Rahman, Elle Koh and Denise Seah, clinched joint bronze in the Women’s Épée team event in New Delhi, India, on 24 June 2026. The result marked a breakthrough for Singapore fencing on the continental stage.

The team began their campaign with a 45-34 win over the Philippines in the table-of-16, before upsetting third seeds Hong Kong 45-38 in the quarter-finals. Their spirited run ended in a narrow 45-41 semi-final loss to China, but they had already secured their place in Singapore’s fencing history.

Juliet Heng, who represented in Women’s Sabre, finished 6th in her event.
