Values in Action: Badminton, Shooting and Track and Field Academy

In a spirited celebration of mentorship and sporting passion, our Badminton, Track and Field, and Shooting Academies led the North West CDC Sports Experience and Workshops, a Values in Action (VIA) initiative designed to ignite a love for sports among primary school students. Across their respective engaging sessions, our student-athletes took on the role of mentors, guiding and inspiring their younger peers while gaining valuable experience in leadership, event-planning and organisation.

Badminton Academy

On 28 May 2025, the Badminton Academy welcomed students from Zhenghua Primary School to their courts for a session packed with energy, learning, and fun. The 2-hour session began with warm-up exercises led by our student-athletes, followed by light-hearted icebreaker games that quickly erased any nerves and brought out plenty of smiles.

Once the young visitors had warmed up, it was time to dive into the fundamentals of badminton. Our student-athletes coached them through basic serving techniques, essential footwork, and simple rallying drills. The primary school students showed great enthusiasm and picked up the skills quickly, encouraged by the support and cheers of their older mentors. The session had provided a meaningful opportunity for connection, growth, and shared joy on the court.

Shooting Academy

The Shooting Academy hosted not one, but two thrilling sessions on 21 May 2025 with Zhenghua Primary and on 28 May 2025 with Woodgrove Primary School. Both days were filled with excitement as the young students stepped into the shoes of budding shooters. After an engaging introduction to the basics of shooting and safety, the students took part in guided practice sessions using air rifles.

To wrap up the experience, the Academy organised a mini-team competition where the students had the chance to put their new skills to the test. Cheers erupted as the top-performing teams proudly walked away with special prizes. For our student-athletes, the experience was just as rewarding. They not only led and supported the younger participants but also learned valuable lessons in planning, teamwork, and event facilitation.

Track and Field Academy

On 28 May 2025, the Track and Field Academy led students from Wellington Primary School for a session full of movement and momentum. The experience began with a group warm-up, followed by a transition into the indoor track area where the excitement truly kicked off.

The young athletes tackled a series of agility and coordination drills, including ladder runs, mini hurdles, and shuttle sprints. Each activity tested their speed, footwork, and determination. Laughter and encouragement filled the air as the students gave it their all. Though many were tired by the end, their expressions showed nothing but exhilaration.

Through these vibrant VIA sessions, the Sports Academies not only showcased their talents but also shared their love for their disciplines in a way that was accessible, exciting, and deeply meaningful. The younger students walked away with new skills, and our student-athletes, in turn, discovered the joy of mentorship and the power of giving back through sport, an experience that will undoubtedly shape them into champions for sports and in life.
