Javier Scores All-Round Success

A competitive swimmer turned water polo National Youth team player, student leader, and valedictorian representing the Class of 2025 Secondary cohort, Javier’s journey at Singapore Sports School has been defined by resilience, dedication, and an unrelenting drive to chase his dreams, both in sport and academics.

His journey began in Primary 4, when curiosity led him to try water polo. “It seemed interesting, so I asked my parents to sign me up for a trial class,” he recalled. That small decision set him on a path toward sporting excellence. Even before water polo, Javier’s versatility shone through. He trained in wushu as part of his Co-Curricular Activities at Anchor Green Primary School and he was also a competitive swimmer.

At Secondary 1, Javier joined Sports School to seek an environment that could nurture both his sporting ambitions and academic growth. “I believed it would give me the best support in both areas,” he said. With a structured training schedule and strong academic support, he was able to push himself in the pool without falling behind in schoolwork.

It has not been an easy journey. Javier has sacrificed countless personal hours from skipping outings with friends, spending long nights in boarding to finish assignments, and balancing an intense training regimen. Yet, he sees these challenges as stepping stones to his sporting success. “Winning our historic first ‘B’ Division National School Games gold medal in 2024 was unforgettable. The following year, we did it again to retain our title. It showed me that hard work really does pay off,” he reflected.

His dedication soon propelled him to the international stage. Representing Singapore at the U16 and U20 Water Polo World Championships was a dream come true. “Wearing the Singapore flag on the world stage has always been my goal,” said the National Youth Team player as he reflected on the pride of representing his country.

Off the pool, Javier is equally committed to leadership and serving the community. As Vice-President of the Student Council, he has been a steady force behind school events, from planning the 2025 Youth Day Egg Hunt to spearheading other initiatives. Even in boarding, he shows initiative and accountability, managing his schedule and responsibilities independently.

Looking back on his four years at Sports School, Javier describes the experience as bittersweet. “Every day demanded relentless effort, but every ounce of work was worth it. It allowed me to accomplish my goals, step by step,” he reflected.

From water polo to excelling in the classroom and leading his peers, Javier Ng has proven himself as a true all-rounder. Javier will continue to pursue his post-secondary education in the through-train International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, while setting his sights on representing Singapore at the Major Games.
