Student-led Values in Action Initiatives: Project Uplift, Julia Yeo

Championing Inclusion Through Project Uplift

Driven by their desire to make a difference, Project Uplift is a self-initiated volunteer initiative by student-athletes that champions inclusion through support for events organised by the Singapore Disability Sports Council.

On 12 September 2026, volunteers Tan Jing Quan, Marsya Raudhah Shah Raihan Shah, Yam Jing Yi and Freya Kylie Lim Li supported SwimTogether Singapore 2026, assisting with registration and event operations. On 19 September, Nessya Koh Li Yun, Tan Hui En, Jing Quan, Hannah Isabella Muhammed Hafiz, Liow Yen Ly and Valerie Tan lent their helping hands at the National Para Swimming Championships.

Through their time, teamwork and dedication, these student-athletes helped events run smoothly while supporting athletes with disabilities in pursuing their sporting aspirations.

Their initiative shows how students can take ownership of supporting a more inclusive sporting community, one act of service at a time.

Julia Yeo Champions for Sports

Fresh from the Asian Games, swimmer Julia Yeo took the initiative to inspire younger swimmers at a club, Swim Alliance, during the Children’s Day weekend.

At the Asian Games, Julia and her teammates broke the Under-17 4x100m Medley Relay record twice in one day.

Yet, amid her busy schedule, Julia wanted to give back to the club and coach who had helped shape her swimming journey. With her training break coinciding with Children’s Day, she came up with the idea of spending time with younger swimmers, sharing backstroke tips, offering encouragement, and giving out gifts.

“Nothing beats seeing smiling young faces receiving the gifts I had given them,” she shared.

For Julia, the experience was a reminder that giving back benefits both the giver and the receiver. “Seeing them happy makes me happy too,” she said.
