Blades Up, Spirits High, En Garde!

Fencing: Istanbul Satellite 2025, Singapore Open 2025, Singapore Foil Satellite 2025, Singapore Cadet Trials II and Singapore Senior Trials II

At the Singapore Open 2025 and Singapore Foil Satellite 2025, Team Singapore’s colours shone bright with a total of 9 medals - 2 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze. Azfar Luqman Ong claimed a golden finish in the Men’s Epee, while alumnus Chan Phu Xien and post-secondary student-athlete Marcus Maximillian Tan fought fiercely to take gold and silver respectively in the Men’s Sabre. In the Women’s Sabre, post-secondary student-athletes Juliet Heng Jie Min and Jae Lim Jia En displayed excellent form to clinch silver and bronze respectively.

Juliet continued her fine run on the international stage at the Istanbul Satellite 2025, where she battled against top international fencers to claim a joint bronze medal for Singapore. Her composure and fighting spirit were an inspiring reflection of the strength and resilience within our fencing community.

“It feels great to win bronze at the Istanbul Satellite. I went in wanting to give my best, test my game plans and strengthen my mental approach. This experience has boosted my confidence, and I hope to carry the same mindset and focus into the SEA Games, taking it one point at a time,” shared Juliet.

Meanwhile, alumna Amita Berthier also shone at the Singapore Foil Satellite 2025, clinching bronze at the competition held from 11 to 12 October 2025.

Fencers Impress at Cadet and Senior Trials II


Singapore Sports School’s fencers delivered a string of strong performances across two competitions, the Singapore Cadet Trials II held on 18 and 19 October, and the Singapore Senior Trials II held on 25 and 26 October. The team showcased skill, determination and consistency on the piste.

At the Singapore Cadet Trials II, the young fencers demonstrated their rising potential. Hannah Isabella Muhammed Hafiz led the charge with a gold medal in the Women’s Sabre, while Thaddaeus Ted Lee claimed gold in the Men’s Foil. 

The School’s medal tally continued with a silver medal from Ashton Auw Sen Hon in the Men’s Sabre, and bronze medals from Isabelle Lee Ern Swan in the Women’s Epee, Alyssa Tan Si En in the Women’s Foil, Sarah Sophia Tan in the Women’s Sabre, and Cameron Alexander Tan Soliano in the Men’s Sabre.

The momentum carried through to the Singapore Senior Trials II, where Marcus Maximilian Tan took home the gold medal in the Men’s Sabre event. Azfar Luqman Ong added to the School’s success with a bronze medal in the Men’s Epee, while Cameron Alexander Tan Soliano continued his fine form with another bronze in the Men’s Sabre. The women’s team also impressed, with Jaida Quah Hao Xun and Jae Lim Jia En each earning bronze medals in the Women’s Sabre.
