13 talented student-athletes from Singapore Sports School competed at the Asian Youth Games 2025 (AYG), held in Bahrain from 22 to 31 October 2025. They represented Singapore in athletics, badminton, pencak silat, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo, demonstrating the school’s continued excellence in nurturing high-performance athletes. A total of 54 young athletes across 11 sports donned national colours to represent Singapore at the third edition of AYG.

Three young talents - Shannon Tan (Athletics), Julia Yeo Shu Ning (Swimming) and Loy Ming Ying (Table Tennis) - competed at AYG and will be part of the SEA Games contingent in December.

In swimming, Julia Yeo, Vivienne Chew En, and Joy Neo Ning Suan were part of the four-member Girls’ 400m Medley Relay team that placed fourth in the finals with a time of 4:20.07. Julia also set a new personal best in the 50m Backstroke heats, a rewarding milestone as she looks ahead to the SEA Games. She shared, “I feel great about seeing how my hard work finally paid off when I achieved my new personal best timing. I learnt to not give up when you are not having the best meet because you never know what will surprise you along the way.”

Teammates Heather Teo Jing Wen and Joy Neo also reached the finals in the Girls’ 200m Butterfly and 200m Breaststroke events respectively, putting up strong performances.

In table tennis, Loy Ming Ying showed strong form in the Girls’ Singles, defeating Hong Kong’s Mak Ming 3–1 in the Round of 16 to reach the top 8. She put up a spirited fight against Lin Wan-Rong of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals, falling just short 3–2 after an intense final set that ended 19–17.

Loy Ming Ying also partnered Benjamin Lau Yi Yuan in the Mixed Doubles event, while teammates Janelle Chiang Rui En and Benaiah Seah Shih Luck formed the other pair. Both teams advanced to the quarterfinals before bowing out after hard-fought matches, displaying commendable composure and fighting spirit throughout the competition.

On the track, Shannon Tan finished 12th in the semi-finals of the Girls’ 100m with a time of 12.33 seconds, gaining valuable international experience ahead of her SEA Games debut.

In taekwondo, Gwen Koh En Qi proudly represented Singapore in poomsae, becoming the nation’s first debutant in the discipline at AYG. She shared, “I was stunned when I first received the news that I qualified for AYG. This quickly escalated into motivation as I ramped up my training to enable me to perform at my best, while ensuring mental preparation. It is my honour to represent Singapore in the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Taekwondo as the first Singaporean debutant for poomsae. I did my best in this competition, and I will continue to press on further for future games.”

Shuttler Tee Kai Ze, pencak silat exponent Nur Hanifah Qisya Mohammad Hanis, and paddler Tristen Yee Rui Bing also put up commendable performances that showcased their talent.
