From 23 to 30 November 2025, Singapore Sports School hosted the 14th edition of the International Youth Netball Challenge (IYNC) 2025. We welcomed six Under-15 teams including teams from both Malaysia, and South Africa. The competition also featured local teams such as the national Under-14 team and a team from the Netball Academy.
Helpmekaar Secondary from South Africa dominated the finals against Bukit Jalil Sports School from Malaysia in the finals and won 27-21. Singapore’s National U14 team took the 2nd runner up spot.
Personally, having participated in IYNC for the past two years, I can confidently say that IYNC is not just about netball, but it also embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and shows how many meaningful relationships can be formed through a shared passion for the sport of Netball. Being given the opportunity to play in IYNC again, it was indeed an eye-opening experience for both my team and me.
During the Open Ceremony, we were honoured to have our Guest-Of-Honour, Tan Yi Jie, Singapore National Player from the Singapore Vandas, alumna of the Singapore Sports School Netball Academy and also an active Strength and Conditioning coach in Sports School. Yi Jie opened the ceremony with a powerful yet inspiring speech that really made the netballers want to strive to play with our hearts.
Throughout the week-long competition among different countries, we were faced with countless new experiences. From early-morning team talks to late-night dance rehearsals, to prepare for our dance showcase during the closing ceremony and daily matches against opponents of different skill sets, the schedule pushed us to trust one another, adapt quickly, and work together toward a common goal: growth.
IYNC challenged us on multiple fronts, allowing us to compete with both local and international teams and pushing us to stretch beyond our limits. Each match required us to adjust, understand, trust each other, and broaden our skill sets. Though we fought hard to the very last whistle and didn’t secure the win in a few matches, we walked away with invaluable lessons.
These moments strengthened our mindsets, shifted our perspectives, and taught us to celebrate the little wins.
Similarly, during the closing ceremony of IYNC, we were truly privileged to be able to host our Guest-of-Honour, Mr K.I Ismail, Promotion Manager, Pacific Sports Pte Ltd (Molten), to give out the prizes to the respective teams . Lastly, we ended the 14th edition of the International Youth Netball Challenge (IYNC) 2025 with a bang, with each team showcasing their dance talents. Not only did it bring joy to the audience, but it also allowed the teams to bond at a deeper level both on and off the court.
Beyond the court, IYNC brought teams together in ways that were truly special. It offered the chance for youths from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences to forge friendships and create lasting memories. Even though some of us live just across a border, opportunities like this are rare. This experience taught us to appreciate and be grateful for the community that supported us throughout the journey—our coaches, parents, teammates, and the dedicated staff.
The competition was also an excellent opportunity for our netballers to act as liaison officers for overseas teams and non-playing netballers to learn officiating skills. Alumni and current student-athletes in the polytechnic programme made time to conduct bench officiating lessons. Student-athletes learnt how to complete the complicated yet important team score sheets and take proper timekeeping. These skills learnt can lead them to officiate at events run by Netball Singapore in future.
All in all, IYNC has shaped us not only as netballers but as individuals—and it sets the stage for the next chapter of growth ahead. I am more than grateful to be given this chance to be part of this event.
