Rising Above Challenges To Score

GCE N-Level Examinations Results

Student-athletes who took their GCE N-Level Examinations this year heaved a sigh of relief when they received their results on 17 December 2020. All 13 student-athletes in the Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) streams passed their examinations, enabling them to progress to the next stage of their life.

2020 has been an unforgettable year especially for them. During a crucial year in their education journey, they had to brave an unprecedented move to turn to home-based learning when COVID-19 affected Singapore and a circuit breaker was imposed in April.

All seven student-athletes in the Normal (Academic) stream were eligible to progress to Secondary 5 and the Direct Entry Scheme to Polytechnic through ITE’s Higher Nitec programme.

Among them is Heng Jun Rui from the Bowling Academy. He remained resilient through a challenging year to do well in his GCE N(A)-Level examinations. He intends to enroll in a Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) at Temasek Polytechnic in an IT-related area.

Sharing his experience, he said, “I was a little worried after COVID-19 struck. Our learning took place online where I could not really focus on studying as there were a lot of factors that did not allow me to focus at home like I would in a classroom environment. We could not physically meet up with my teachers and I could not clear my doubts on questions effectively.

“I feel very happy about my results as I can take the pathway that I wanted. I am extremely grateful to the teachers that helped me throughout this period, guiding me despite it being very time consuming during this circuit breaker. I also could not have done this without the help of my classmates, who have been supporting me and giving me endless positivity, telling me that everything would be fine. That really has helped me ease my mind. I intend to enroll in a Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) at Temasek Polytechnic in an IT-related area.”

Like Jun Rui, Saifuddin Nasrudin from the Track and Field academy did his GCE Normal (Technical) examinations this year. He shared, “Unlike many others, I was not as worried about the impact COVID-19 would have on my studies. I tried to keep conscientious and do the best that I can. In fact, I think going through something different was a good experience on how we should adapt ourselves to changes.” Saifuddin intends to do a Nitec course in Electronics (Power and Sound) or Fitness Training at ITE. He intends to continue pursuing sports and take up volleyball at ITE.

Saifuddin is among the six student-athletes who did the GCE N(T) examinations this year. All of them have gained entry into ITE’s Nitec programme with their results.
