Academy’s Got Talent

There was singing, acting and merrymaking on the evening of 29 May 2019 at Singapore Sports School’s Auditorium. Student-athletes had the opportunity to show off their diverse talent and skill – from playing instruments to singing to spoofing to jumping rope.

Sports School's Academy's Got Talent, an activity organised by Boarding, opened with a bang as the Secondary 1 shooters delivered a winning performance of Cups, combining singing a capella with well-coordinated movements of the Cup Game. Track and Field Academy’s singer-guitarist pair Irsyad Mohammad Said (vocalist) and Oneal Lai Yi Yi was runner-up in the 10-group contest.

A group from each of the nine academies, as well as one from Individual Programme sports let their hair down for the evening and showed off their creative side, providing entertainment for their schoolmates with their voices, instrumental ability, humour and creativity. A rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Can't Help Falling In Love” performed by Boarding Mentor Muhammad Al-Qaasimy Abdul Rahman and his wife Zafirah Zakaria closed the evening’s events.

Ms Chia Bee Teck, Assistant Director for Boarding and Business, Dr Irwin Seet, Director for Student Development, and Mr Mohmad Shafiee Barahim, Discipline Master, formed the judging panel. Prizes, courtesy of school sponsor Nestlé Singapore-MILO, were awarded to the top five performing groups.

AGT is part of an initiative started in 2018 to cultivate a stronger school spirit and deeper camaraderie among student-athletes.
