54th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships


At the 54th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships, 47 swimmers showcased their skill and determination during the competition held from 12 to 17 March 2024. The team's remarkable performance went beyond amassing a whopping 53 medals (17 gold, 17 silver, 19 bronze), as they also exceeded expectations by achieving 281 personal bests over the week-long competition. Additionally, 4 swimmers training under the National Training Centre @ Sports School also excelled, securing 6 medals (2 silver, 4 bronze).

Manda Low and Ian Leong emerged as shining stars in the pool, each winning an impressive 4 gold medals in their respective events. Their outstanding performance earned them the titles of Most Valuable Players for the 15-17 years old category. Manda also claimed a silver in the 100m Butterfly, while Ian secured a bronze in the 200m Freestyle event, bringing their total medal count to an impressive 5 each. Not to be outdone, Casey Chua was the most decorated swimmer, capturing a staggering 6 medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) from various events.

The swimmers' remarkable achievements were a testament to their sheer mental and physical strength. Beyond the dazzling medals, they returned with invaluable lessons and personal growth.

Reflecting on her experience, Amanda Law shared, “This meet was filled with steep learning curves which helped us sharpen our skills to do better in the next race. Despite having my fair share of ups and downs, with some days being more mentally and physically challenging than others, I was able to emerge stronger from the race. For example, when I did not hit my personal best for the 200m freestyle event, instead of letting this affect my morale for the next race, I learned to be resilient by not giving up easily in the face of setbacks and exhaustion.”
