16&U and 19&U Tanglin Lions Netball

Our netballers rose to the challenge and demonstrated their skills and teamwork at the Tanglin Lions Netball Championship 2024 on 9 March 2024. They formed three teams to enter the tournament – two in the 16 and Under category and one in the 19 and Under category.

In the 16 and Under category, the SSP A team secured a notable achievement, clinching the Bowl Pool champions trophy. SSP B displayed their skill and resilience, earning the title of overall 4th in the Cup Pool, despite narrowly losing in the 3rd and 4th place game by just one goal. Their gripping match against Singapore Netball spilled over to extra-time with a final score of 14-13 in favour of their opponents.

In the 19 and Under category, SSP Diamonds left a lasting impression, finishing as the overall 2nd in the Cup Pool. In an exciting encounter against Australian International School, the match ended in a draw at game time, escalating into a thrilling extra-time showdown. Luck was also not on the girls’ side as they narrowly lost the game 16-15.

Amidst the showcase of netball talent, Faithmaria Ifeoma McKevin Lawrence's exceptional performance stood out, earning her the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 19 and Under category. Her exemplary skills and leadership contributed significantly to SSP Diamond's success.

“My personal goal going into this competition was to be MVP. So, when it came true, it felt incredibly rewarding and humbling. It reflects on the hard work and drive I put in for every game, and without my team's defensive work, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this. It was heartening to watch my team play their hearts out. We started very strong, pulled an early lead in the game, and kept the tempo high. The spectators were also cheering very loudly for us, and it felt very nice to see we had a lot of support, especially from the other teams we played against,” said Faith.
