All-time best scores in the combined events is affirmation of Singapore Sports School Track and Field’s effort in developing its student-athletes into all-rounded athletes. Track and Field student-athletes put up a strong showing at the 10th BJSS International Combined Events Championship (BJSSICE) to deliver one of the Academy’s best results since their first participation in 2011.

Singapore Sports School’s Under 13 team emerged champions in the Overall Boys and Overall Girls categories at the meet organised by Bukit Jalil Sports School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 2 to 3 November 2019. This was the first time that Singapore Sports School clinched two titles in a single edition of the BJSSICE.

The U13 Boys comprising Edsel Poh, Lucas Fun Le Cong, Mohamed Hyder Anaqi Mohamad Rohaizad and Mohammad Martin Hazim Mohammad Ghazali chalked up a best score of 13,020 points in the Pentathlon, eclipsing the Academy’s previous highest score of 11,530 points set in 2014. Their win was boosted by creditable performances by Lucas and Anarqi who finished 2nd and 3rd. Two other teams – U14 and U15 Boys – also rewrote the Academy’s best scores in the Hexathlon and Heptathlon respectively.

Student-athletes pushed their boundaries to match up to their Malaysian competitors, with 13 out of the 16 U13 and U14 student-athletes also achieving Personal Best scores in the combined events. Another student-athlete who delivered a notable performance was Samantha Theresa Ortega who won the U14 Girls Individual gold medal with 4,540 points.

Among the Track and Field Academy’s team of 22 student-athletes across the U13 to U15 age-groups, 18 placed top 10 in their age-groups, while all teams ranked in the top 3 out of 6 teams.
