Alumnus Loh Kean Yew made headlines again after defeating World No. 2 Chou Tien-chen at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in the Philippines on 13 February. The giant-killer, who took on two-time Olympic Champion Lin Dan at the Thailand Masters last year, stunned his opponent with scores of 21-16, 21-17 in the opening Singles of Group C against Chinese Taipei.

Just last month in January, Kean Yew has also claimed a scalp by defeating Japan's world No. 10 Kanta Tsuneyama in the first round of the Indonesia Masters in Jakarta with scores of 24-22, 21-9.

Kean Yew credited his wins to hard work and his focus on improving himself. The World No. 38 is now putting his focus at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Kean Yew, who is part of the 22-strong contingent, is looking to secure his Tokyo berth at the Singapore Badminton Open in April, an important last stop in the qualifying window for this year's Olympics.
