Four victories landed him in the final of the 2019 RSL Swedish Open Men’s Singles. Two weeks after winning the crown at the 2019 Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters and claiming the biggest scalp of his career – two-time Olympic gold medallist Lin Dan, Loh Kean Yew continued his good form from 17 to 20 January 2019 in Lund, to take home the silver medal in the tournament in Sweden.

The Singapore Sports School alumnus had a rather smooth run to the Final. He overcame a close shave in the last 8 against No. 2 Seed Kalle Koljonen of Finland, winning two consecutive sets 21-16 and 21-12 after a 15-21 first set-loss.

A swift defeat of Japanese Hashiru Shimono, Seed No. 8, set Kean Yew up for his encounter with Minoru Koga, also from Japan. Kean Yew eventually settled in the runner-up spot with the match not going in his favour.
