Divers Rake In Handful Of Medals

2019 Singapore National Diving Championships

Singapore Sports School student-athletes and alumna won 4 silver and 1 bronze medals at the 10th Singapore National Diving Championships from 7 to 9 June 2019.

On 8 June, Secondary 1 diver Yim Shek Yen won a silver medal at the Junior Platform Boys event. This was followed by a second silver medal win in the Age Senior 1m Boys event, and fellow Secondary 1 Sports School diver, Joel Chiew, was next to him on the podium as Joel won the bronze medal in the same event. Shek Yen and Joel then paired up to clinch another Silver in the Age “C” Boys 1m Synchronised event.

Sports School alumna Fong Kay Yian returned to the springboard event in style after an ankle injury which required surgery in January 2019, winning Women’s 3m Synchronised silver medal with national teammate Ashlee Tan. The pair scored 210.18 points, just pipping Macau's Choi Sut Kuan and Leong Sut Chan (209.34 points) to second place. Malaysia's Ong Ker Ying and Loh Khiayi claimed the gold with 249.15 points.

Kay Yian and partner Ashlee will be defending their title at the Manila 2019 Southeast Asian Games, having earned qualification to the biennial Games with their score of 245.34 points at the Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Asian Games. Kay Yian’s next competition will be at the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, in July 2019.
