11 past and present fencers have marked their calendars for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games to be held from 5 to 17 May 2023 in Cambodia. 6 of them earned their ticket after making the cut at the World Cup in Cairo and Heidenheim, the last qualifying competition for the Games.

At the Heidenheim Epee World Cup 2023 held from 23 to 25 February 2023, Simon Lee Renjie, Si To Jian Tong and Bron Sheum Han Shen earned their ticket to the upcoming SEA Games. With Bron’s good performance at the competition, he displaced alumnus Jefferson Cheong Jia Hui to make it to the SEA Games. Simon and Jian Tong also strengthened their position, with Simon earning his qualifying mark to compete in the individual event, while Jian Tong will be playing in the team event.

Meanwhile, foilists Max Neo Wei Kit and Zephaniah Ian Kiew also did well enough at the National Bank of Egypt World Cup Championships Senior Foil – Cairo 2023. At the competition held from 23 to 26 February, they strengthened their position to qualify for upcoming SEA Games. Max, who is the one of the top two Singaporean foilists, earned a spot to compete in both the individual and team events, while Zephaniah will be competing in the team event. It will be Max’s and Zephaniah’s first SEA Games outing.

Our female foilist Cheung Kemei, who made her debut at the last SEA Games and won an individual team medal, also did well in Cairo to make it to the upcoming SEA Games.

The other fencers who have currently it to the Team Singapore contingent are current student-athletes Dan Wei Zuo, Juliet Heng Jie Min and Filzah Hidayah Nor Anuar, and past student-athletes Amita Berthier, Jean Koh and Nicole Sher Tynn Wee.
