Formidable Fencers Shine On World and Local Stage
Fencing – FIE World Cup: Udine, FIE Junior World Cup: Aix-En-Provence, Singapore Senior Challenge, and Singapore Senior Nationals
From 4 to 6 January 2024, Cheung Kemei demonstrated unparalleled perseverance at the FIE World Cup: Udine, securing an impressive 5th place in the Women’s Foil Individual event. Equally noteworthy is the stellar performance of Sean Ho Jia Le, claiming the 4th spot in the Men’s Foil Team event, marking a significant achievement for Team Singapore.
Our tenacious junior fencers who also featured for Team Singapore at the event – Azfar Luqman Ong, Cevin Sun Qi, Esther Tan, and Tiffany Seet He Yun battled fiercely in their respective events, and gained invaluable experience against formidable opponents in the challenging setting of Italy.
At the Aix-en-Provence Junior World Cup on 20 Jan 2024, Sean Ho Jia Le and the Men’s Foil team once again showcased their resilience to triumph in the face of adversity. Their effort against other top talents from around the world and secured them a bronze medal.
In a separate arena, the Singapore Senior Challenge held on 21 January 2024 witnessed Esther Tan's exceptional prowess as she claimed joint bronze in the Women’s Epee event. The Singapore Senior Nationals held a couple of days later from 27 to 28 January 2024 saw alumnus Chan Phu Xien emerge as champion, Marcus Maximillian Tan finish 2nd, and Dan Wei Zuo win joint third in the Senior Men’s Sabre event. In the Senior Men’s Foil event, Zephaniah Ian Kiew lunged his way to 2nd place while Sean Ho and alumnus Max Neo Wei Kit occupied the joint third positions. Finally, Juliet Heng Jie Min proved once again she is a force to be reckoned with as she took the top spot in the Senior Women’s Sabre event. Jae Lim Jia En joined her on the podium in the joint third position.
