Sports School Ushers In 107 Freshmen In New Year

Singapore Sports School Orientation Camp

As the world ushered in new hope for the new year, Singapore Sports School welcomed 107 Secondary 1 student-athletes as they embarked on their new journey in life. The first week for them began with a camp to orientate them to their new life and home for the next four or more years.

They checked into Boarding for the first time as Sports School student-athletes on 1 January 2019 and partook in their first meal prepared by Sports School's new caterer Chartwells. Throughout the three-day Sports School Orientation Camp led by their seniors, the freshmen were familiarised with the Sports School culture through talks, cheer sessions, games and activities, and training and boarding with their seniors. Through water polo and indoor rafting in Sports School’s swimming pool, morning physical training session, and other teambuilding activities, stronger friendships and bonds were formed with their batchmates whom they will study, train and live with for the next few years.

On the penultimate evening of the camp, the Secondary 1s participated in the Academy Orientation Games, the first activity of the 2019 Academy Games.

The completion of a 5km run around the perimeter of the school marked the end of the Orientation Camp on 4 January and recognised the induction of the 2019 cohort of Secondary 1 student-athletes into Sports School. Freshmen also received a Sports School t-shirt from a senior buddy, while their parents fixed a school collar pin on their shirts as part of the induction ritual.
