Shanti Sprints To Double

018 ASEAN University Games (Track and Field)

Singapore’s sprint queen blazed her way to 2 gold medals at the 2018 ASEAN University Games from 13 to 16 December 2018. Veronica Shanti Pereira contributed all of Team Singapore’s gold medals in Track and Field at the 18th edition of the Games in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

The Singapore Sports School alumna was proved herself as the fastest university athlete, clocking 11.74s in the century sprint, just one hundredth of a second over her National Record set in August 2017. Two days prior, Shanti showed her form by winning the Women’s 200m in 24.12s, pipping her Vietnamese rival to the line by 0.05s.

Fellow Sports School alumna Ang Wei Lu secured a bronze medal in the Women’s Long Jump with a leap of 5.37m. Their contributions brought the nation’s tally to 2 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals in the sport.
