Singapore Junior Golf Championships
The month of December was packed with exciting golf action as our golfers took part in four tournaments to round up the year.
First, it was the EFG Singapore Junior Masters 2021 which was held at Laguna National Golf Resort Club. Over the 3-day tournament from 29 November to 1 December, the girls – Jaymie Ng Wan Xin (IBDP Year 5), Hailey Suanne Loh (alumna) and Chen Xingtong (Secondary 2) returned with creditable results in 4th, 5th and 6th place respectively.
Jaymie and Hailey then punched above their weight to secure the top two positions on the leaderboard at the Singapore National Amateur Championship. Jaymie overcame higher-ranked Aloysa Margiela Atienza and came up against alumna and National Squad member Hailey. Jaymie eventually took the first place while Hailey came in second.
Meanwhile, Nathen Tan En Quan (Diploma in Business, Year 2) became the Men’s Division champion after defeating seasoned campaigner Emerson Boon by the same score line after coming back from 2 holes down. Recent graduate Inez Ng Xin Yi also did well to secure a 4th place. The tournament was held at the Singapore Island Country Club from 6 to 9 December.
The action continued at the Orchid Country Club where the HSBC Youth Golf Challenge 1st Leg was held in conjunction with the 4th National Ranking Game (NRG). Over the three-day tournament from 14 to 16 December, Hailey and Xingtong topped the Girls A and B Division respectively. They did well enough to be placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the year-ending NRG. Sisters Jaymie and Denise Ng Wan Xuan (Secondary 3) also continued their fine form to win a bronze in their respective Youth Challenge divisions.
Over at the Men’s Division, National School Games A Division champion and alumnus Eng Wei Jin showed no rust from the national examinations when clinching an impressive runner-up spot in the NRG with a 2-over par 218.
Finally, at the Keppel Club where the Singapore Junior Golf Championships was held from 20 - 23 December, the competitive spirit remained high despite a short rain delay at the early stage of the rounds. Jaymie won first place with 75,71,79 in the Girls Division 1, while Xingtong took home the trophy with scores of 80, 75,77 in the Girls Division 2.
