Big waves were created on the penultimate day of the Liberty Insurance 50th Singapore National Age-Group Swimming Championships when Maximillian Ang Wei, in 2:15.11s, broke the National Record and bettered qualifying times for the Philippines 2019 Southeast Asian Games (Category “A”) and 2019 FINA World Junior Championships in the Men’s 200m Breaststroke.

Maximillian, a Year 2 post-secondary student-athlete in Singapore Sports School’s customised Diploma in Sports and Leisure Managementprogramme, rewrote the previous nation best of 2:15.24s set by Lionel Khoo in the Heats on 23 March 2019 before sealing his position as fastest Singaporean over the distance in the Final.

The 18-year-old had earlier clinched the 100m Breaststroke gold medal on 21 March, as well as a silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke. Maximillian contribute all of 2 gold medals won by Sports School’s Swimming Academy at the 2019 SNAG from 19 to 24 March. Swimmers also collected 10 silver and 9 bronze medals during the meet. Sports School’s student-athletes delivered breakthrough performances, splashing to 202 new Personal Bests in 230 events swum by 43 swimmers.
