Graduation 2020: Through-Train Pathway to Diploma in Business

A flexible and athlete-friendly curriculum is what attracted shooter Teo Jia En to the customised Diploma in Business (DBIZ), offered by Singapore Sports School in collaboration with Republic Polytechnic. Through this collaboration, student-athletes like Jia En, will bypass the National Examinations to join the business programme with a sport management specialisation track. The course is designed to provide student-athletes a strong foundation in business skills and knowledge, and an in-depth understanding of sport management to prepare them for an exciting career in the sports industry. More importantly, the course is designed to provide flexibility and support to athletes in their concurrent pursuit of sport and academic excellence.

“This programme balances sport and studies with the help of close mentorship and friendly staff to ensure that we will not miss out on our lessons when we are overseas for competitions or training. The flexible curriculum structure which allows me to take time off from lessons also provides me with time and space to focus on my training without distractions,” shared Jia En.

Through the DBIZ programme, Jia En is preparing himself toward his goal to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games, while doing his best to qualify for a degree programme of his choice. “With such a curriculum structure, double training sessions, and strong academic and sport support, I am very confident that I will be able to make it,” shared Jia En.
