It was a match to remember for Singapore Sports School student-athlete Wong Xin Ru and alumna Goi Rui Xuan, who were part of the Singapore Table Tennis team to bring home the bronze medal after six years of returning empty-handed at the 2019 ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Championships Women’s Team event.

The Singapore Table Tennis team got off to a winning start in the Women’s Team event starting 15 September 2019. Held at Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the Singapore Team, consisting of Singapore Sports School student-athlete Wong Xin Ru, alumna Goi Rui Xuan, and national paddlers, Feng Tianwei, Lin Ye and Yu Mengyu, took on the team from Maldives in their first match, followed by locking horns with the Sri Lankans. The girls capped a comfortable 3-0 win against both opponent teams to proceed on to the 16 September matches against Malaysia and South Korea.

The girls put up a tough fight against their Malaysian opponents and eventually emerged victorious with a score of 3-2 to proceed into the quarter-finals with South Korea. Rui Xuan, with national paddlers Feng Tianwei, Lin Ye and Yu Mengyu, defeated South Korea with a score of 3-1, before getting defeated by China in the semi-finals on 17 September.
