Once again, the Singapore Sports School’s Track and Field student-athletes gave a strong showing at the 2019 SPH Schools Relay Championships to retain the Overall Schools champion trophy to secure Sports School’s eighth overall win.

Team Sports School, competing in 12 events in the “A”, “B” and “C” Divisions, topped the two-day meet with 120 points, 11 ahead of closest rival Raffles Institution. Sports School student-athletes collected 10 gold and 6 silver medals over 23 and 24 February 2019.

The annual SPH Schools Relayprovides Track and Field Academy student-athletes competition exposure in a setting that places emphasis on teamwork and less on individualism. The 28th edition of the competition even brought schoolmates from other sports to contribute to the teams. They were fencer Cheung Kemei (Secondary 3), netballers Cheyenne Lim Hwee Suan (Secondary 2) and Rishika Ghanamoorthy (IBDP Year 6), and triathlete Nicholas Rachmadi (IBDP Year 6).

The “C” Division Boys and Girls teams were the highlights of the meet, with the boys capturing golds in all four events – 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m and 4x800m. The girls narrowly missed out on the gold in the 4x200m Relay. The “C” Girls 4x800m team came closest to setting a meet record on 23 February, completing the race in 10:39.93s, less than half a second shy of a 10-year-old Meet Record.
