Bernice Captures Singapore Crown

2019 Singapore International Open

National bowler Bernice Lim Hui Ying retained the championship trophy in Singapore at the 51st Singapore Open when she edged national teammate New Hui Fen out in the Women’s Masters Stepladder Finals.

Singapore Sports School alumnae Hui Fen and Bernice progressed into the Stepladder Finals seeded first and second respectively to guarantee a podium finish for Singapore in the four-lady finals. Bernice had enjoyed a good run in the tournament from 16 to 30 June 2019, showing good form to rank top 2 female bowler throughout the competition.

She maintained her composure and focus, knocking down 200 pinfalls in the first game against South Koreans Lee Yeon Ji (196 pinfalls) and Son Hye Rin (194 pinfalls) to earn a second game in the Finals against Hui Fen. The eventual champion defeated Hui Fen in two games (220-205, 214-213) to grab the top prize of the tournament.

Secondary 4 student-athlete Ashley Teoh Zi Ling also gave Sports School reason to cheer when she finished second best in the Girls Under 18 Masters with an eight-game total of 1,520 pinfalls.
