Bowling Alumni Strike Gold At Championships
26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships
Our bowling alumni's strike sparked off one another at the 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship held in Hong Kong from 8 to 18 January 2023. Forming 8 out of the 12-member strong Team Singapore contingent, they emerged strongly by contributing 7 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze) to the team's medal haul of 11 medals (5 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze), putting Singapore as the top country on the overall medal tally.
The 8 of them included Bernice Lim, Daphne Tan, Jazreel Tan and New Hui Fen, who were part of the Women's Team, and Basil Ng, Darren Ong, Jaris Goh and Timothy Tham who were part of the Men's Team.
Jaris and Timothy stood out from the crowd to defeat Malaysian and Korean opponents and took home the gold medal in the Men's Doubles with a convincing win of 2991 pinfalls. Not to be outdone, Hui Fen and teammates Shayna Ng and Cherie Tan played a stable game throughout the Women's Trio to win the gold medal with 2204 pinfalls.
Hui Fen also snatched 2 silver medals in the Women's Doubles and Women's Masters, while Bernice and Jazreel, and Daphne took home the bronze medals in the Doubles and Masters events respectively.
Continuing their fine form, the four girls, together with teammates Shayna Ng and Cherie Tan, formed the Women's Team. They put up a strong fight against their Korean opponents and eventually settled with a silver medal in the Team event.
