Skaters Sprint To Team Golds

2020 Southeast Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy


Singapore junior ice skaters Amelia Chua Rae-Lene and Ryo Ong Yik were Singapore’s top speed skaters for their age-group at the 2020 Southeast Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy.

Amelia and Ryo, Singapore Sports School Secondary 2 student-athletes, won 2 Team gold medals apiece at the meet held on homeground from 4 to 5 January 2020. They were part of the same team that triumphed the Mixed Relay 2,000m.

In addition to their relay titles, Amelia collected 2 individual silvers, while Ryo concluded the event with another 3 silvers, including 2 new National Junior D Records. He improved on his previous records in the 500m and 777m events, clocking 00:48.121s and 01:16.298s respectively. Their performance throughout the two-day meet ranked them overall 2nd in their respective categories.
