2023 NSW Junior Championships

It was triple joy with three bronze medals and new personal bests by the trio Edsel Poh, Laavinia Jaiganth and Raam Kumar Muthukumaran, at the 2023 NSW Junior Championships. Known to be the top event for rising stars in the New South Wales, athletes from Australia and beyond came together at the Sydney Olympic Park from 24 to 26 February 2023 to race towards their dreams.

Raam Kumar Muthukumaran, a Year 3 Diploma in Business student-athlete, had an outstanding run, clocking two personal best records during the competition. He set a personal best of 49.56s during the preliminary round, and eclipsed it with a new personal best of 49.55s in the finals of the Under-20 Men’s 400m event where he also won a bronze medal.

Similarly, Laavinia, who is a first-year Diploma in Business Studies student-athlete, achieved a bronze-medal finish after touching the finish line in 64.93s. She also unlocked a new personal best with her winning time, breaking her previous personal best record of 66.71s which she set during the SA Allcomers Meet 2 just two weeks ago. Her winning timing also improved her qualifying standing for the coming Asian Youth Athletics Championship.

Her batchmate, Edsel Poh, also had a memorable race in the Under-18 400m Hurdles event. He made it to the podium as a bronze medallist after completing the race in 58.09s.
