Cycling: SCF Urban Eliminator, Helaz BMX National Series

It has been exciting month for Secondary 4 student-athlete Mikha Zuhayr Norman who has had two podium finishes at a local and an overseas event. At the SCF Urban Eliminator on 5 February 2023, Mikha had a good race that clinched a 2nd-place win. That boosted his confidence to head to the Helaz BMX National Series just a week later from 10 to 12 February where he finished 3rd in his event.

Ice Skating: ISU World Junior Short Track Championships 2023

Secondary 4 ice skater Ryo Ong achieved a new personal best during the ISU World Junior Short Track Championships 2023 in Dresden, Germany, that took place from 27 to 29 January 2023. He broke his own personal record in the 1,500m event. Based on his results, Ryo booked a spot in the Men’s event at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon.

He also did extremely well at the ISU Short Track World Cup in Dresden, where he set a new Men’s National Open, Under-18 and Junior B record for 1000m.

Sailing: 42nd Singapore Open Windsurfing & Foiling Championships

Windfoiler Elkan Reshawn Oh took the crown in a breakthrough victory at the 42nd Singapore Open Windsurfing & Foiling Championships. It was the first time that Elkan had beat his seasoned Thai competitor. He edged him out by 1 point to win the iQFOil Men’s category.

Triathlon: Metasprint Series, 2023 Asia Triathlon Cup

At the MetaSprint series (Duathlon) held on 19 February 2023, Year 6 IBDP triathlete Janel Suastra completed the race in 2nd place in the 16-19 years old category. Third-year Diploma in Business Studies student-athlete Sean Patrick also did well in the 20-24 years old category as he was the 3rd to touch the finish line. The race consisted of a 3km run, a 20km bike ride, followed by another 3km run.

“Though duathlon is not my main event as I come from a swimming background, I managed to put in my best effort to clinch 2nd place in my category, narrowly missing first place by 18s. This event is a good stepping stone towards a bigger event in Hong Kong next week and puts me in a great headspace for the coming event,” shared Janel on her second-place finish.

Janel and Sean also participated in the 2023 Asia Triathlon Cup in Hong Kong on 25 February 2023, where they gained good experience competing against international triathletes.
