2019 Yonex Rising Star


While the 2019 Southeast Asian Games was ongoing at the Philippines, Sports School’s Under 15, 17 and 19 shuttlers were also putting their best foot forward at the Yonex Rising Star 2019 in Thailand. The badminton team returned with a total of 2 golds, 2 silvers and 3 bronzes from the five-day event from 30 November to 4 December 2019.

Secondary 2 and 4 student-athletes Megan Lee Xinyi and Donovan Willard Wee stole the limelight when they went on to win gold medals in the Under 15 Girls’ Singles and Under 17 Boys’ Singles respectively. Donavan cruised to victory with scores of 21-15, 21-13 while Megan took on her opponent with scores of 21-12, 15-21 and 21-8. At the Under 19 and Under 17 Boys’ Singles event, Secondary 5 and 3 student-athletes, Lim Ming Hong and Ryan Tan Rui Yang, did us proud with a silver and bronze medal respectively.

In the Boys’ Doubles events, Under 17 duos, Nge Joo Jie and Torance Jng Yao Chee, and Ryan Tan Rui Yang and Johann Prajogo, took the silver and bronze medals respectively. Under 15 pair, Julian Ho Yu Feng and Olivier Foo See Git, have also won a bronze.
