20th Batch Of Student Leaders Ready To Serve With Passion And Compassion

Student Leaders’ Investiture Ceremony

On 7 August 2023, the 19th Student Council officially passed the baton to the 20th batch of student leaders during the Student Leaders’ Investiture Ceremony at the Auditorium. The Student Leaders’ Investiture is a significant ceremony as it celebrates and acknowledges the work done by student leaders behind the scenes to serve the school. At the same time, it invigorates energy and excitement for the new batch of student leaders who are inducted to lead the student body.

The Guest-of Honour was alumna Tatiana Wong Yu Rong, an ex-President of Student Council and 2019 SEA Games gold medallist in Fencing. The ceremony, attended by parents and student leaders of other schools, was themed ‘Breaking Barriers’ to reflect a year of pushing their limits and initiating change in the school. The theme also aimed to serve as a reminder to the incoming leadership team to break barriers in their quest to do their best for student-athletes and the school.

Samantha Theresa Ortega, a Track and Field Academy student-athlete in IBDP Year 6, led the 19th Student Council. In her outgoing speech, she advised the incoming batch of student leaders: “Serve with confidence and not be afraid to try. Sometimes we may feel inferior or feel limited by our age, position or reputation. But you are as valuable to the team as you make yourself out to be. Don’t hold back on helping out, to take change when no one does or to contribute an idea because you are afraid of failing or making a mistake….Serve fearlessly.”

She handed the reigns to Nikita Mae Jing-yu Meyers, an IBDP Year 5, Track and Field Academy student-athlete (Read her speech here). Nikita will lead a 16-member 20th Student Council Executive Committee. The change in leadership was marked by the passing of flame and pledge-taking led by Nikita.
