There are more reasons to celebrate this festive season for IBDP Year 6 student-athlete Inez Ng Xin Yi who topped the last three National Ranking Games with a cumulative score of 664 strokes over the 9-round games held at the Marina Bay Golf Course from 7 to 23 December 2020. There were six National Ranking Games in 2020, with the first three being cancelled due to COVID-19. Her win at the 4th to 6th National Ranking Games earned her a spot at an elite international amateur event in 2021.

Throughout the back-to-back weeks of action, Inez went from strength to strength in the Women’s Division. At the 4th National Ranking Games, the development squad member got into a three-way tie with Shannon Tan and Jen Goh. All three had a total gross score of 226. Inez eventually emerged second on countback. Despite the tough fight, Inez went on to capture an impressive win in the 5th National Ranking Games by shooting a 4-under 68 strokes in the final round, before finishing off with a total gross score of 228 strokes in the 6th and final National Ranking Games. Alumna Hailey Loh Suanne also did us proud by emerging 4th after the three Ranking Games.

In the Men’s Division, former student-athlete, Wong Qi Wen, clinched the top spot in the leaderboard. His back-to-back victories in three Ranking Games earned the National Squad member the opportunity to compete at the 2021 SMBC Singapore Open. Post-secondary student-athletes Andre Chong Wei Zer, Brandon Han Zhen Guang and Eng Wei Jin also returned with commendable results. Brandon, who is in the Diploma in Business Studies programme, ranked third on the leaderboard with a cumulative score of 656 strokes over the three Ranking Games, while Andre (Diploma in Sports And Leisure Management) and Wei Jin (extended IBDP) finished the three Ranking Games in 5th and 8th place respectively.

The Ranking Games were held for National and Development Squad golfers, and the score will count towards the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) Order of Merit and World Amateur Golf Ranking.
