Paddlers In Good Form
Dr Ng Eng Hen Cup - STTA Table Tennis Championships and WTT Youth Contender Vientianne
Singapore Sports School’s paddlers were in top form during the Dr Ng Eng Hen Cup - STTA Table Tennis Championships, held from 1 to 10 September 2023, at Toa Payoh Central Community Club. The paddlers brought back gold medals from all the four events they participated in, raking in a total of 9 medals (4 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze).
The boys put up a dashing performance, sweeping medals of every colour in the Under-15 and Under-19 age-group events. Loy Xing Yao won gold in the Under-15 event after battling for the top spot with his teammate Ellsworth Le in the final. Similarly, Nicholas Tan and Jayden Tan Kai Yang went head on head with each other in the finals of the Under-19 event, where Nicholas won the title. Janelle Chiang Rui En and Chloe Lai Neng Huen also won gold medals among the girls in the Under-15 and Under-19 events respectively.
These achievements served as valuable preparation for some paddlers who took on the bigger stage at the WTT Youth Contender Vientiane in Laos from 20 to 23 September. Loy Xing Yao and Zhou Jinghe shared the space on the podium as they finished in the joint 3rd position in the Under-15 Singles event. Ellsworth Le and Loy Ming Ying formed a dynamic duo in the Under-15 Mixed Doubles event, where they eventually finished in 3rd place.
